- According to the most recent National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), over 10 million youth under the age of 20 are reported to be underage drinkers.
- Because alcohol's effects do vary with age, an elderly person that drinks may experience slower reaction times, problems with hearing and seeing, and a lower tolerance to alcohol's effects; these factors obviously put older people at higher risk for falls, car crashes, and other types of injuries that may result from drinking.
- In terms of helping behavior during incidents related to alcohol abuse, research by the National Center on Addiction and Substance abuse reported that women are much more likely to engage in protective behaviors to help a person that is in trouble with alcohol than men.
- Nearly one-third of college students surveyed said they wished alcohol was not available at campus events.
