  • Regardless of how much alcohol a person consumes, the body can only metabolize a certain amount of alcohol every hour. That amount varies widely among individuals and depends on a range of factors, including liver size and body mass.
  • A survey of 4,271 students from more than 10 universities found that about a quarter of the students that had consumed alcohol in the past 30 days said they were mixing alcohol with energy drinks, either the premixed kind or Red Bull and vodka.
  • Alcohol can damage the cells lining the stomach and intestines, which hinders the absorption and breakdown of nutrients in those organs.
  • The type of treatment one receives for their alcohol dependence problems depends on the severity of their alcohol problem and the resources that are available in their community. Treatment may include detoxification (the process of safely getting alcohol out of your system); taking doctor-prescribed medications, such as disulfiram (Antabuse') or naltrexone (ReVia), to help prevent a return (or relapse) to drinking once drinking has stopped; and individual and/or group counseling.
