  • Research suggests that women who drink alcohol while pregnant are more likely to have a baby die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This risk substantially increases if a woman binge drinks during her first trimester of pregnancy.
  • After an episode of heavy drinking, as the alcohol begins to wear off, a small withdrawal syndrome can take place; symptoms of this syndrome can include stomach upset, early morning awakening (a type of insomnia), headache, and electrolyte imbalance, which often makes people feel sick.
